Stay Hydrated!

This is sponsored content from BlogHer and Crystal Light.

Last year, Chicago had a mild summer. Any of you that came to visit for BlogHer will probably remember. It was cool and not humid. In fact, I think we had warmer temps in November than we did all summer in 2009.

This year, Mother Nature is not being so nice. She has decided to go the opposite route and make this summer a hot and insanely humid one. Which means that I am constantly sweating. And I’m constantly thirsty. So making sure I’m hydrated is uber important, because I don’t want to pass out on the street and get robbed.

(Did I ever tell you about the time I passed out while WORKING as an usher at an Arizona Cardinals game? Because I woke up and went right to work, standing in the 100 degree sun on a Sunday morning? And that I passed out in the line to get a bottle of water, clearly too late, and someone stole the money out of my hand? Moral of the story? DRINK YOUR WATER!)

So anyway, it is important to stay hydrated, especially in these summer months. And especially if you’re like me and use these summer months to drink beer outside during street fests and baseball games and out on a patio to celebrate because it is Tuesday and it isn’t snowing.

But it is hard to remember to drink enough water, even in the hot summer months. Life is busy and I’d rather do most anything than stop having fun to drink some water. One way I remember to drink enough water is by keeping a big water bottle on my desk at work. And it has a straw and for some reason, I can drink so much more water when there is a straw involved. And thankfully my bottle has measurements on it so I know how much I drink throughout the day and to make sure I’m getting in my 8 glasses!

But water is kind of gross tasting, am I right? So it is hard, sometimes, to choke it down and stay hydrated. Sometimes I come home from work and am absolutely parched. And I want nothing more than another glass of water to quench my thirst.

Enter Crystal Light. A great way to flavor your water and for only a few calories and no added sugar! WIN!

Every night when I get home, as I’m making dinner, I will pour a big glass of water and add my Crystal Light To-Go pack of Fruit Punch to it and all of a sudden, just a few minutes later, I’ve hydrated myself with 16 oz of water! Just like that! And even better is the water tells my brain that I’m not as hungry so I don’t gorge on my dinner and regret it later when my pants don’t fit.

And clearly it’s working, judging by the red mouth!

So tell me, how do you remember to stay hydrated, especially in these hot, summer months?

Let me know by leaving me a comment and you will be entered for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card that I will be giving away at the end of the month! And don’t forget to check out the Blogher.com CLB exclusive offers page for the other six participating blogs for more chances to win!

  1. Lemonade ! Usually of the Crystal Light variety, sometimes I mix it with tropical punch for a treat - I also make freezer pops with it and ice cubes to flavor my ice water !

  3. Well here is my day in the life of beverages... one cup of coffee in the morning, possibly a trip to the in-the-building Starbucks if that didn't work. Then 3 liters of water during the day, my company provides cold filtered water, so that is how I do it, one from 7-10, another from 10-1, and the last one from 1-3. When I get home it is all about the Crystal Light, being type 2 diabetic, I know how important it is to stay hydrated, and to stay away from sugary drinks which raise my blood sugar. So, I drink Crystal Light. I buy jugs of water and add two containers of CL, lately it has been one cranberry and one apple for my own cran-apple creation.... I go through about a half gallon a night, and pay for it in the middle of the night, but no chance of dehydration here! Always experimenting with what flavors I can mix and have them taste good!

  4. I'm a big Crystal Light-fanatic, too (which I know we've discussed with the red-mouth issue). I have the Raspberry Lemonade to-go packs, which I add to my 24oz water bottle at work (I like it a little watered-down), and try to make sure I finish 1 of those before lunch and 1 before I leave for the day.

  5. I drink LOTS and LOTS of water, lemonade, iced tea - - I also like the Crystal Light individual packs that I can just add to my water bottle. It's important to stay hydrated!

  6. I am basically thirsty all the time, so I just keep a water bottle at my desk and at home (a big stainless steel one). I always bring a full bottle with me when I leave for work, and I usually drink the whole thing on the way in. My main problem is being too lazy to get up and walk to the water cooler for refills, so I'm working on that!

  7. I try and start my day over hydrated in case I forget later :) I actually don't think that works, or is recommended but I make myself drink about a liter or so of water before I let myself have coffee in the morning. And if you want me to do ANYTHING, put it in between me and my morning coffee. I assure you it will get done. :)

  8. The trick to getting me to get psyched about drinking water is a water bottle I love. Right now I'm rocking a blue and grey Camelback bottle that holds 16 oz. I can chug it in one sitting because it's just so fun! to drink out of. I know. I'm totally water weird. But it works !

  10. I stay away from soda! And I use water as an excuse to take a break from work. I go downstairs and fill my cup once an hour. Not only does it keep me hydrated because I get my 8 cups a day, I also get to take a stretch. :)

  12. I DON'T.
which is a serious problem. I dehydrate a lot in the summer and feel like crap. BAH.

  13. I love water! I actually quit a place once because they didn't provide Sparkletts. What a bunch of junk, eh?

But I do love the Crystal Lite lemonade and pretty much always have a pitcher in the fridge.

  14. I actually just really love the taste of water. Does this mean I won't win since I didn't plug Crystal Light?

  15. I have one of those giant Nalgene plastic water bottles (32oz), and I find that if I fill it up with nice cold water, I--get this--DRINK IT. But only if I actually remember to fill it up. But I try to drink 3 of those a day.

  16. I have to have something with me all day. I just stay thirsty all the time. I'll flavor water every now and then with Crystal Light (lemonade, yum!) but most of the time it's iced water.

  17. I drink Crystal Light Iced Tea or flavored water to stay hydrated.

  18. Does melted ice cubes in my iced coffee count as drinking water? No? Then I don't stay hydrated. Crap.

  19. I try to always have a pitcher of lemonade, tea, or Crystal Light in the refrigerator, but I still fall short of my recommended water-intake. I love Crystal Light, my favorite flavors are lemonade, pink lemonade, fruit punch, and cherry pomegranate!

  20. I have a stainless steel water bottle and I try to drink 3 bottles full a day. I prefer plain water, but my kids and husband love to add the crystal light packets to their water bottles.

  21. To help me remember to drink enough water, I use two different water bottles - one at the office and one at home. This way I know that I just need to drink each bottle and I'm good!

  22. I'm a water freak. Also, when Crystal Light re-tooled all their packaging, Jewel had their mix-ins that were in the "old" packaging on clearance. Same product, just "old" packaging design. I totally loaded up. Like, insanely. YAY hydration! :)

  23. I drink smartwater and pretend that it will make me look like Jennifer Aniston. It's not working, though.

Actually, I just really like plain water. I usually drink it all of the time, anyway, so I don't do anything different in the summer. I'm weird like that.

  27. If I have a lemon sliced up in the fridge and ready to go, I have found that I drink a LOT more water. That little slice of lemon makes all the difference.

  29. I get my water in by filling up a bottle each day before work. it holds 1 liter of water so I know at the very least I am getting a liter and some extra- I freeze it to make it better! :)

Also, I eat plenty off fruits which are rich in water to make sure I get water through that way!
