It's Worth All The Extra Bathroom Trips!

This is sponsored content from BlogHer and Crystal Light.

I started a health kick about five weeks ago. I decided I was tired of being fat and having no clothes that fit. I was successful losing weight like six years ago (and have since put it all back on) and I wanted to get back to that person, the person who was confident, happy with her weight and HEALTHY.

Since I started, I’ve lost six pounds. It is a slow and steady race. Especially now that I’m in my 30s. (I lost that weight so fast 6 years ago when I was in my mid-20s and could totally still lose weight after having some bad days here and there. Oh the slowing of your metabolism as you get older is a cruel, cruel joke.) But I’m succeeding and I will have lost this weight by the end of the year, come hell or high water.

The biggest thing I’ve learned through dieting is how important it is to drink water. I mean, we should all be drinking our 8 glasses of water a day to stay hydrated. Our body is made of mostly water. It NEEDS water to live. But it is so much more important for me to remember this when I’m trying to lose weight. Because 90% of the time when I’m hungry and want a snack? I’m really thirsty. Or bored. And drinking water cures me of that, most of the time. So I’m not sticking gobs of cake into my pie-hole when I’m not really hungry at all. Gobs of cake = why my pants stopped fitting.

It’s amazing how when I don’t stay hydrated, how easy it is for me to get tired and cranky, especially in this insanely hot summer we’re having. Just last weekend I realized later in the afternoon that the only thing I had to drink all day was an iced coffee. So no wonder when I was driving home at the end of the day, sitting in traffic in the heat sitting, I was so cranky I was ready to punch something, or someone.

Like I’ve mentioned before, I keep a big bottle of water on my desk at work to drink throughout the day. The first thing I do once I get home, after I change into my comfy clothes/pajamas, is pour myself a huge glass of Fruit Punch Crystal Light to drink before dinner. It keeps me full and keeps me alert so that I can spend my evenings watching all sorts of bad reality television.

So tell me, how does staying hydrated help you?

  3. I've found that drinking water and cutting out soda helps elimnate my headaches. My skin isn't as dry as it used to be, I feel like I have more energy.

And often, when I think I am hungrey, I am just really thirsty. I love using Crystal Light, it gives me a chance to shake things up, but also the different flavors satisfy my sweet tooth.

  4. I just FEEL better when I'm hydrated. Fewer headaches, clearer skin (I swear!), and overall, just clearer, if that makes any sense at all.

  5. I used to be so bad at drinking water and staying hydrated through out the day and I could tell as I was sluggish all the time.

However, I soon found this huge water bottle (Bluewave "DAILY 8" Water Jug - 1.5 Liter (51 oz) Polycarbonate Water Bottle) that I only fill up once in the morning, which is great for me as I am lazy if I run out of water or anything to drink:) It gets me thru the work day and has given me more energy and decreased any possible headaches I get from dehydration.

  8. I feel better when I'm hydrated...and all the extra trips to the bathroom help keep me active at work instead of sitting in front of the computer all day.

  9. Someone once told me to drink 1/2 my weight in water, which "GAH!" I would drown at my desk. But I noticed that my urine would get lighter and lighter as I was more hydrated, so it became a little game. To see how quickly I could get it to go clear and there is an odd-odd satisfaction when you peak in the bowl and it's clear.

  11. The more hydrated I am, the less I tend to snack. If I start the day with a giant glass of water, I'm more likely to continue the trend throughout the day.

  23. I too, I must admit, am a "clear pee" checker as well. I just FEEL better head to toe when I drink enough and Crystal Light helps me get in that fluid intake. I especially LOVE the Decaf Iced Tea - SOOO good.

I'm enjoying reading everyone's tips and congrats on the weight loss. I recently had a hysterectomy at 32 and the weight is piling on. I need to get back on the bandwagon!! I think I'll have to look for that Daily 8 container someone else mentioned!
